What they are

The Institute, close to home

MIFS Societies are the local presence of the Institute. Each is a community of candidates, credential holders and members organised around a city or region, operating under a common framework and a shared commitment to the Code of Ethics.

Societies exist to strengthen the profession where it is practised. They connect people who hold or pursue MIFS credentials, sustain professional development beyond the exam, and give the Institute's standards a local voice. The network now spans more than sixty societies across more than ninety countries, from established financial capitals to emerging markets.

Membership of a Society follows from membership of the Institute. Candidate Affiliates, Members, Professional Members and Fellows are all welcome, and participation is open to those studying towards their first credential.

What they offer

Programmes run by every Society

Activities vary by city, but each Society is built around four commitments to its members.

Events and seminars

Technical talks, market briefings, panel discussions and standards updates that keep members current and connected to the wider profession.

Mentoring

Structured mentoring that pairs experienced charterholders and Professional Members with candidates and early-career practitioners.

Exam-preparation groups

Peer study circles and revision sessions aligned to the MIFS curriculum and exam windows, run locally for each programme.

Networking

Regular gatherings that bring together members, employer partners and local societies to build lasting professional relationships.

Volunteer, lead, or start a Society

Societies are sustained by their members. Volunteers organise events, mentor candidates, run exam-preparation groups and represent the profession locally. Contributing is one of the most direct ways to strengthen standards and to develop as a practitioner.

  • Volunteer. Support an existing Society by mentoring, hosting sessions or helping to run its events programme.
  • Take a committee role. Members in good standing may stand for local committee positions that guide a Society's activities.
  • Start a Society. Where no Society yet exists, the Institute supports members who wish to establish one, subject to a minimum local membership and adherence to the common framework.

To express interest in volunteering or in forming a new Society, write to the Institute at general@mifstandards.org.

The Societies are where the Institute's standards become a lived professional community. Proven, not just claimed, holds as true in a local seminar room as it does in the examination hall.
