Establishes a verified standard of conduct at the start of a career and complements technical study toward the CMFA, CFMA or CFRS.
The Institute's foundational credential in professional ethics. One proctored examination establishes that a professional understands the Code of Ethics, the seven Standards of Professional Conduct, and the obligations that govern conduct in capital markets. Proven, not just claimed.
The CFES certifies that a professional has demonstrated a working command of ethical principles and market-integrity standards. It is designed to be accessible and rigorous in equal measure: a single examination, no prerequisite, and a syllabus that translates the Code of Ethics into the decisions professionals face every day.
Because it is foundational and efficient to sit, the CFES is the Institute's most widely adopted credential for firm-wide certification. Employers use it to establish a common standard of conduct across teams, desks and incoming cohorts — a shared language of integrity that can be verified independently by clients, counterparties and regulators.
The credential is conferred on candidates who pass the proctored examination and attest to the MIFS Code of Ethics. Like every MIFS credential, it is issued as a cryptographically verifiable record that can be confirmed at any time through public, no-login verification.
The syllabus is built around the MIFS Code of Ethics and its seven Standards of Professional Conduct, applied to the realities of modern markets.
One examination, delivered under the same integrity controls as every MIFS credential.
The CFES is assessed by a single proctored examination of approximately two hours. Questions are scenario-driven, testing not recall alone but the candidate's ability to apply the Code and the seven Standards to concrete situations. Windows run monthly and on-demand, so candidates and cohorts can sit at a time that suits them.
Standards, pass marks and curriculum are owned by the independent MIFS Board of Standards, ensuring the examination measures a consistent bar of competence and integrity across every country in which it is offered.
Government ID confirmation before the examination begins.
Combined human and AI proctoring throughout the session.
A controlled testing environment with continuous monitoring.
Each sitting is scored for integrity, protecting the value of the credential.
Transparent, straightforward and designed for both individuals and teams.

A foundational credential that signals conduct and readiness across the whole of finance.
Establishes a verified standard of conduct at the start of a career and complements technical study toward the CMFA, CFMA or CFRS.
Demonstrates command of the Code, market-abuse rules and AML/KYC obligations that underpin compliance and control functions.
Gives employers a common, independently verifiable ethics standard across desks, teams and incoming cohorts.
Many candidates begin with the CFES and build from it. The credential sits naturally alongside the Institute's technical programmes, and post-nominal recognition follows through MIFS membership once a credential is held in good standing. For teams, a shared ethics baseline strengthens every subsequent qualification a professional earns.
